The Los Angeles Galaxy announced this morning that they have successfully traded Juan Pablo Angel to Chivas USA in exchange for a third round selection in the 2012 MLS Supplemental draft. Signed under a DP contract, it’s unknown whether Chivas is paying him DP money or have worked out another deal.
From the Galaxy’s end, this is a pretty paltry sum for someone the team brought in for a million dollars. Granted, if you look at this as a three team trade (to use US sports), the Galaxy got Robbie Keane and a late round draft pick, Chivas USA got Juan Pablo Angel, and Tottenham Hotspur got money. Pretty sure all sides walk away happy.
Angel scored three times in 22 games this season, and his deep-lying center style didn’t mesh with a Galaxy team lacking a true striker. Things may have worked out differently if he’d had a healthy Adam Cristman to work with, but that’s Robbie Keane’s role now.
