Jered Weaver, Justin Verlander Duel In Battle Of Aces Sunday Morning In Detroit

The series finale Sunday morning at Comerica Park features one of the best pitching matchups of the season, as Cy Young candidates Jered Weaver and Justin Verlander face off. The Angels have won two of the first three games of the series with the Tigers, and look to win their 12th series of their last 13.

Weaver, Verlander, and New York's CC Sabathia are the likely favorites for the American League Cy Young Award. Weaver and Verlander are tied for second with 5.1 WAR, behind Sabathia's 5.6. Weaver leads the majors with a 1.79 ERA. Verlander leads the AL with 173 innings and 169 strikeouts. Both Weaver and Verlander are in search of their 15th win in today's game.

Weaver has pitched 13 straight quality starts, one shy of the Angels club record set by Frank Tanana in 1977. Weaver has pitched six innings or more in 30 straight starts.
