The Dodgers have won three straight games, and are in a good position to win a fourth on Tuesday night against the Rockies at Chavez Ravine. You see, Clayton Kershaw takes the mound for the Dodgers tonight, which usually means good things for the team in blue. The left-hander has not allowed an earned run in each of his last three starts, spanning 23 innings..
Kershaw in his career has allowed six runs to the Rockies in six starts against them at Dodger Stadium. Four of those came last season in September, snapping a 29-inning home scoreless streak against Colorado. This season, Kershaw leads the major leagues in strikeouts, and is 11-4 with a 2.72 ERA. He has 61 strikeouts in his last six starts with a 1.53 ERA in 47 innings.
The Rockies have touched up Kershaw for nine runs in 12 innings in two starts this season, both Dodger losses. Those games were at Coors Field. In his last five starts at Dodger Stadium, Kershaw has allowed a total of three runs with five unintentional walks and 45 strikeouts, and he is averaging 8.4 innings per start. He has three complete games and two shutouts during that span.
The Rockies have a formidable hurler on the mound tonight as well. Jhoulys Chacin is 8-7 on the season with a 3.60 ERA, and in two starts against the Dodgers this season Chacin has pitched 15 scoreless innings. However, he also hasn't won a game since June 15, going 0-3 with a 5.71 ERA with 24 walks and 29 strikeouts in six starts since.
