The Angels look to snap their six-game losing streak Saturday night facing the Royals at Angel Stadium in Anaheim. Joel Pineiro gets the start for the Angels, looking for support from an offense that hasn't scored more than three runs in nine straight games. Felipe Paulino gets the start for Kansas City, looking for his first win with the Royals.
Pineiro is 2-3 with a 3.76 ERA this season, though he hasn't won a game since May 10. Tonight is Pineiro's sixth attempt at career win number 100, as he has gone 0-3 with a 5.29 ERA in his last five starts, including a loss in Kansas City on May 31. Pineiro has pitched at least six innings in each of his eight starts this season.
Paulino began his season with Colorado, but was designated for assignment by the Rockies on May 22 after putting up a 7.36 ERA in 14 2/3 innings. Five days later, he was traded to the Royals for cash, and Kansas City after one game stuck him in their starting rotation. Paulino has allowed two runs (one earned) in 16 innings as a Royal.
Chatsworth High School grad Mike Moustakas made his major league debut for the Royals on Friday night, starting at third base, and was 1-for-3 with a walk. The Angels have scored 18 runs in their last nine games, of which they have lost eight. They begin Saturday six games behind the Rangers, third place in the American League West.
Tonight's 6:05 p.m. PDT game will be televised by Fox Sports West. For more news and information on the Angels, or on tonight's game, be sure to read the SB Nation blog Halos Heaven.
