The Angels are in the midst of a scoring slump which has translated itself into a losing streak. The Angels offense has managed to score just 13 runs during the 6 games of their current home stand, resulting in a 1-5 record. The one win came on Jered Weaver’s pitching gem against the Yankees a week ago, but the team scored just 3 runs in that game too. On Friday night, the Angels open a 3-game series against the Kansas City Royals to conclude their nine-game home stand.
Looking to end their 5-game losing streak, the Angels turn to Ervin Santana (3-5, 4.30 ERA) who has been less than stellar against the Royals this season. In his previous two starts in 2011, Santana has compiled a 6.39 ERA without a decision.
Kansas City will send left-hander Jeff Francis (2-6, 4.52 ERA) to the hill. Francis has seen success against Los Angeles this season as he’s 1-0 in two starts, compiling a 2.57 ERA.
The Royals will be activating the second of their top minor league prospect tonight when Mike Moustakas is expected to make his major league debut at third base. Moustakas, who graduated from Chatsworth High School, was a first-round pick in 2007 and had been hitting .287 with 10 home runs for Triple-A Omaha.
