Erick Aybar led-off the game with a double and four batters later the Angels had a 2-0 lead. However, that was about it for the Angels offense for the night as they drop game 2 of their 3-game series to the Kansas City Royals 7-3. Except for the 6th inning when the Halos scored a run on a Jeff Mathis double that scored Peter Bourjos, the Angels managed to get just 2 other hits. Although Royals starter Jeff Francis (2-5) has been mostly ineffective in 2011, he's been able to stymy the Angels by allowing just 4 runs over 14 innings this season, both games won by KC.
For the fourth game in-a-row, Angels starter Joel Pineiro (2-2) was unable to get his 100th career win as he allowed 6 runs (4 earned), on 9 hits while striking out one and walking none. His sloppy play in the third contributed to the Royals 5-run inning. Mark Trumbo also had an error that eventually resulted in another run for the Royals in the seventh.
Hot hitting Torii HUnter was held hitless for only the third time in his last 12 games. In that stretch, Hunter had hit .372 with 4 home runs and 12 RBI, while the Angels had won 7 of eleven.
The Angels will play the final game of their 6-game road trip tomorrow in Kansas City at 1pm PDT. Tyler Chatwood faces Felipe Paulino.
