Angels Hitters Look To Break Out Against Tough Trevor Cahill

The Angels (25-25) will take on the Oakland Athletics (23-26) in Wednesday night's game in Anaheim in a game that features starting pitchers who have had good success against their opposition.

The Angels will send Ervin Santana (2-4, 4.18 ERA) to the hill in the third of 4 games against the A's.  With a 12-3 record and an ERA of 1.99 in 21 career appearances against Oakland, Santana looks to get back on track after his recent outing have been less one-sided.  In his last 5 starts versus the A's, Santana has gone 2-2 while having a 4.34 ERA.

So far in 2011, Santana has been inconsistent.  After going winless in his first five starts, Santana has gone 2-1 over his last five.  During that time he has compiled a 2.81 ERA over 32 innings, allowing 24 hits while striking out 27 and walking just 7.  Santana pitched his fourth career shutout in his last outing, a 4-hit win over the Braves on May 20th.

If Santana likes facing the A's, right-hander Trevor Cahill probably likes facing the Angels more.   Cahill (6-1, 1.79 ERA) has had great success against the Halo squad in his career.  In seven starts, Cahill has gone 4-1 with a 1.81 ERA, which includes one earned run over his last 21 innings against the Angels.  Cahill's 6 wins this season has him tied for the league lead with Jered Weaver (and 4 others), while his 1.79 ERA ranks second in the AL.

The Angels are 3-2 during their recent 7-game home stand and are currently a half game behind the AL West division leading Texas Rangers.
