Angels Vs. Athletics: Jered Weaver Looks For First Win In May

The Angels, who were swept in a brief two-game series last week in Oakland, look to return the favor beginning Monday night in the opener of a three-game series with the Athletics. Jered Weaver starts for the Angels, looking for his first win in May. Josh Outman makes his return from Tommy John surgery for Oakland, making his first start since mid-2009.

Weaver was 6-0 with a 0.99 ERA in April, but in May he is 0-4 with a 5.25 ERA. Part of the turnaround is bad luck, as Weaver had a 2.05 FIP and 2.81 xFIP in April and a 3.28 FIP and 3.67 xFIP in May. There has been some decline, but not as drastic as 6-0 to 0-4. Weaver shutout the A's on April 25 in Anaheim.

Outman was recalled from Triple A Sacramento today, making his first major league start since June 19, 2009. To make room for Outman, Oakland designated Jerry Blevins for assignment. At 24-24, the Angels are a half-game behind Texas for first place in the AL West.

Tonight's 7:05 p.m. PDT game will be televised by KCOP. For more news and information on the Angels, or on tonight's game, be sure to read the SB Nation blog Halos Heaven.
