Pineiro, Angels Open Two-Game Series In Oakland Against Anderson, A's

After losing a weekend series in Texas, the Angels look to stay in first place Monday night as they open a brief two-game set in Oakland against the A's. Joel Pineiro gets the start for the Angels, making his fourth start of the season. Brett Anderson will start for Oakland.

Mark Trumbo in May is hitting .306/.395/.528 with two home runs in 11 games. He is one of five Angels' regulars hitting over .300 this month, as the Angels have moved some pieces around to deal with injuries. Howie Kendrick has filled in for the injured Vernon Wells in left field, starting four of the last five games in the outfield, while Trumbo has settled in after news last week that first baseman Kendrys Morales will miss the entire season. The Angels have scored 4.21 runs per game in May.

Pineiro has allowed just three runs total in his three starts, and is 2-0 with a 1.33 ERA so far this season. Anderson is 2-3 with a 3.21 ERA this season, and has averaged seven innings per outing in his four home starts. Oakland is at 20-20, a game and a half behind the Angels in the AL West. The Angels beat the A's two of three games in Anaheim earlier this season.

Tonight's 7:05 p.m. PDT game will be televised by KCOP. For more news and information on the Angels, or on tonight's game, be sure to read the SB Nation blog Halos Heaven.
