"We are proud and excited to bring Major League Soccer’s championship event back to the City of Los Angeles and The Home Depot Center, one of the finest sports venues in the United States," said MLS Commissioner Don Garber. "MLS Cup has grown into a four-day celebration of the world’s game in North America. We believe that Los Angeles and The Home Depot Center will be a superb stage for MLS Cup 2011."

This is the fifth time Los Angeles has hosted the MLS cup, with the Rose Bowl hosting the event once. After two years of MLS Cups in less than ideal conditions (the artificial turf in Seattle, frigid conditions in Toronto), the late November game will be played in a warm climate. MLS Cup consists of four days of buildup, including the presentation of the Supporter's Shield trophy and Fan Fest. While Home Depot Center is also home to Chivas USA, the Los Angeles Galaxy lend their colors to the Cup logo, and are considered the hosts for the game.
