LA Galaxy's Landon Donovan Named Player Of The Week

The weekly vote on Player of the Week has been tallied, and Los Angeles Galaxy captain Landon Donovan has earned the honor. The midfielder scored two goals going 74 minutes in his first game back after taking time off to recover from a knee injury. The two goals opened Donovan's goal account for the season, and his brace was the first for the Galaxy since September 18, 2010; Landon Donovan was the multi-goal scorer that day as well.

Donovan's first goal in the Galaxy's 3-0 victory over the Portland Timbers was a penalty kick that resulted from a foul Donovan suffered. After Rodney Wallace picked up the yellow card for putting an arm around Landon Donovan, it was a calm and cool kick to the left, with Troy Perkins in his first MLS match diving right, that put the Galaxy up 2-0. This goal also broke a 13 game goalless streak for Donovan.

The second goal came in the second half, after Juan Pablo Angel had come in for a hurting Miguel Lopez. Juan Pablo Angel dribbled almost to the end line before crossing the ball past the face of the goal. A streaking Landon Donovan, who had been trailing the play, was right on the ball to redirect it into the back of the net. The JPA-Landon Donovan combo was nominated for MLS goal of the week.

As was mentioned before Landon Donovan as well as Chad Barrett are nominated for Goal of the Week. If you like, you can vote by sending a text message to 22442:
