Angels Announce Opening Day Roster

The Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim have announced their opening day roster, which contains a few surprises. The club is carrying three catchers out of the gate, including Hank Conger. In addition, the club will open the season with a whopping six players on the disabled list, including slugger Kendrys Morales. Here is the full 25-man roster:

Starting Pitchers (4): Jered Weaver, Dan Haren, Ervin Santana, Scott Kazmir

Relief Pitchers (7): Jason Bulger, Kevin Jepsen, Michael Kohn, Fernando Rodney, Hisanori Takahashi, Rich Thompson, Jordan Walden

Catchers (3): Jeff Mathis, Bobby Wilson, Hank Conger

Infielders (6): Mark Trumbo, Howie Kendrick, Erick Aybar, Maicer Izturis, Alberto Callaspo, Brandon Wood

Outfielders (5): Vernon Wells, Peter Bourjos, Torii Hunter, Bobby Abreu, Chris Pettit

Disabled List (6): Joel Pineiro, Scott Downs, Bobby Cassevah, Kendrys Morales, Reggie Willits, Freddy Sandoval

Pineiro has a tight shoulder, but is expected to be recalled in time to start the April 8 home opener. Willits has a calf strain, which opened the door for Pettit as the fifth outfielder. The Angels open their season on Thursday afternoon in Kansas City, with a 1:10 p.m. PDT start against the Royals.
