Real Salt Lake Defeat LA Galaxy, 4-1

It was obvious from the second minute that the night would be a struggle for the Los Angeles Galaxy. Andy Williams took a chance created by Javier Morales, and pushed it past goalkeeper Josh Saunders. The Galaxy keeper, who before last week was running on a record breaking goalless streak, saw his goals against average number rise exponentially tonight as he allowed four goals past him, leading to a 4-1 defeat at the hands of Real Salt Lake. The second Real Salt Lake goal was more controversial. Josh Saunders fouled Paulo in the box, though Paulo may have been offside at the time. The resulting penalty kick was taken by Javier Morales, and with only ten minutes played the Galaxy were down 2-0.

All four of Real Salt Lake's goals came from inside the box. At the 41' mark, Javier Morales put a screamer past Saunders on a loose ball at the corner of the box to effectively place the game on ice. Real turned super defensive in the second half, which was to be expected. David Beckham showed frustration on the pitch, especially at referee Jair Marrufo. Shaking his head in frustration, Captain Beckham earned a yellow card shortly after half time for mouthing off at the ref. Not long after that, Real put their fourth goal on the scoreboard when Paulo scored on the run after two Galaxy defenders collided with each other, allowing Fabian Espindola to get free on the wing and get off an easy rolling cross.

The team was able to push one goal across, with a David Beckham free kick finding Juan Pablo Angel in the box at the 80' mark. Angel's first goal with the LA Galaxy will stand as a personal milestone but not much else. Paolo Cardozo also made another appearance in Galaxy white tonight, as the Uruguayan is starting to earn his spot coming off the bench.
