Tiger Woods Wins 2011 Chevron World Challenge Over Zach Johnson With Birdie On 18

Tiger Woods birdied the final hole to win the 2011 Chevron World Challenge at Sherwood Country Club in Thousand Oaks, California. Woods shot a final-round 69 to beat Zach Johnson by a single stroke. It was the first win for Woods since winning the Australian Masters in November 2009.

Woods took a two-shot lead with a birdie on the 11th hole, but gave a shot back with a bogey on 12. Johnson pulled even with a birdie on the 13th hole. They each traded pars on 14 and 15, but Johnson made his birdie putt on the 16th hole while Woods missed.

After Johnson narrowly missed his birdie putt on the par-three 17th hole, the door was open for Woods to tie with a long birdie putt of his own. After an up and down putting weekend for Woods, NBC golf analyst Roger Maltbie asked aloud of Woods, "Will he make a putt that matters?"

Tiger did.

Woods made his roughly 20-foot putt, which prompted a roar from the crowd and a fist pump from Woods.

Chevron World Challenge Final Leaderboard
Rank Player Final Round Tournament
1 Tiger Woods 69 -10
2 Zach Johnson 71 -9
3 Paul Casey
69 -5
4 Matt Kuchar 71 -4
4 Hunter Mahan 71 -4

Woods previously won the event in 2001, 2004, 2006, and 2007. He lost the tournament in a playoff in 2010 to Graeme McDowell.

Woods shared the low round of the day with both Paul Casey and Jim Furyk. Casey had a remarkable recovery after an opening-round 79 left him in last place in the 18-player field. He ended the tournament with scores of 68, 67, and 69 to finish all alone in third place.

The course played the second-most difficult of the four days on Sunday, as the average score was 72.06. Only the 72.94 Thursday average was higher during the tournament.
