The Loyola Marymount Lions traveled to Northern California for their first WCC game of the season on Saturday evening. The hometown San Francisco Dons battled back from an early deficit to tie the game with a three-pointer in the final seconds of regulation and send the game to overtime. The Lions were eventually able to come out on the winning end, picking up their first WCC win in a 77-76 overtime affair. They now hold an overall record of 8-6.
LMU opened up an early lead and held a sizable 37-20 advantage at halftime. The Dons scored an impressive 50 points in the second half to force an overtime, but the Lions were able to emerge victorious thanks to Anthony Ireland scoring the eventual game-winner on a jump shot with just 0:25 left.
Forward C.J. Blackwell led all LMU scorers with 19 points, also picking up six rebounds and an assist. Ireland fell just short of a double-double with 17 points, nine rebounds, six assists and two steals.
The Lions will play their next game on Thursday, December 5 as they host the Brigham Young Cougars.
