The Long Beach St. 49ers got double-doubles from both T.J. Robinson and Eugene Phelps Friday night, turning a close halftime affair into a 79-43 blowout victory over the Division II BYU-Hawaii Seasiders at Walter Pyramid. Long Beach State improved to 4-3 on the season.
Robinson had 12 points and 14 rebounds on the night for his fourth double-double of the season, and Phelps had 14 points and 13 boards for his first. Larry Anderson led the 49ers with 16 points, including four three-pointers.
Long Beach State led just 32-28 at halftime, but shot a blistering 60.7% in the final 20 minutes to pull away for their second win in as many years over BYU-Hawaii. The 49ers outscored the Seasiders 47-15 in the second half, including a 22-5 run in the first seven and a half minutes after the break.
The 49ers are off until Tuesday night, when they head to Lawrence to battle the No. 15 Kansas Jayhawks.
