UCLA Basketball Injury Update: Reeves Nelson Hurts Ankle, Questionable For Season Opener

Reeves Nelson is one of the cornerstones of the UCLA Bruins basketball squad this season. The big man is considered one of the keys to the season, as he'll be required to bring senior leadership to a squad full of tall talent. Nelson has played well at times and inconsistent at other periods, so an improvement in his overall game will be much needed come his senior season.

Unfortunately, Nelson will be starting the season a little hobbled. Jonathan Gold tweeted these updates.

#UCLA Reeves Nelson has hurt left ankle. X-ray this morning, waiting for results, won't practice today. Not an ankle sprain, Howland said.

#UCLA Reeves Nelson X-ray negative but he is not practicing today and is considered day-to-day. Expected to play Friday, but questionable.

It's still unclear whether the UCLA big will play this week. But it isn't that likely that he'll be needed too much in the season opener against Loyola Marymount, so if he doesn't play it won't be too big a deal. Still, I'm sure the Bruins would love to play this season in transition at full strength as much as possible, particularly with a senior leader like Nelson manning many of the minutes.
