After a pair of wins on the road last weekend in Oregon, the UCLA Bruins return home to host the Cal Golden Bears tonight at Pauley Pavilion. The Bruins are 8-2 at home this season, while this is just the fifth road game for Cal all season. The Bruins (11-6, 3-2 in Pac-10 play) have won two straight, and eight of their last 10 games.
Reeves Nelson, the leading scorer and second-leading rebounder for the Bruins this season, will look to improve on his worst game of the season Saturday at Oregon. The junior forward played just 15 minutes, didn't attempt a single shot, had three rebounds and five fouls. On the season, he is averaging 13.9 points and 7.8 rebounds per game.
Cal (9-8, 2-3), like UCLA, has a balanced scoring attack, with four players scoring in double figures. Junior forward Harper Kamp leads the Bears with 13.8 points per game, and is second on the team averaging 5.6 boards per game. Senior center Markhuri Sanders-Frison leads Cal with 8.1 rebounds per contest.
Last season, the Bruins and Bears split their regular season series, with each team winning on the road. Cal then defeated UCLA in the semifinals of the Pac-10 Tournament, 85-72. UCLA is 37-8 all time against Cal at Pauley Pavilion. Tonight's 7:37 p.m. PST game will be televised by Prime Ticket, with Bill Macdonald, Don MacLean, and Courtney Jones on the call.
