Lakers' Matt Barnes Arrested On Domestic Violence Charge

New Laker Matt Barnes was arrested Wednesday night in a felony domestic violence charge in Sacramento, per Chelsea Phua of the Sacramento Bee:

After speaking to Barnes and the woman, deputies determined that the two had been in a physical confrontation and Barnes had prevented the woman from talking to 911 operators. Curran said dispatchers heard the sound of a struggle in the background on the brief open line until it was disconnected.

Both parties had visible injuries but Barnes was determined to be the primary aggressor, [Sacramento County Sheriff's spokesman Sgt. Tim] Curran said.

Barnes, who went to UCLA, signed a two-year deal for $3.6 million with the Lakers this offseason. This wasn't his first brush with controversy this summer, either. Barnes reportedly slapped an opposing coach in a summer league game in San Francisco back in August.

Barnes averaged 8.8 points and 25.9 minutes per game last season for the Orlando Magic. The Lakers are his eighth team in eight NBA seasons. He is scheduled to appear in court Monday.
