Los Angeles, CA (Sports Network) - Juan Uribe hit a two-run homer in the ninth inning to cap San Francisco's comeback, as the Giants edged the Los Angeles Dodgers, 5-4, in the middle test of a three-game series.
The Giants trailed by four runs after six innings, but Buster Posey homered to begin the seventh. Edgar Renteria and Pat Burrell hit solo shots in the eighth to get the visitors within a run, and Uribe's one-out homer off Jonathan Broxton (5-5) put San Francisco on top.
Brian Wilson then pitched a scoreless bottom of the ninth to earn the save for San Francisco, which rebounded from a loss in Friday's series opener and gained ground in the NL West. First-place San Diego dropped its ninth in a row earlier Saturday, and the Giants' win pulled them within two games.
San Francisco also remained three games behind Philadelphia in the wild card chase, as the Phillies beat Milwaukee on Saturday.
Jay Gibbons hit a three-run homer for the Dodgers, who have lost five of seven.
Gibbons hit his home run off Giants starter Matt Cain, who pitched seven innings and got into trouble in only one of them -- the fourth. He walked leadoff batter Rafael Furcal, who stole second with one out and moved to third on James Loney's single.
Casey Blake pulled a double down the left field line to plate Furcal, and Gibbons followed with his third home run of the season to make it a 4-0 game.
But Cain rebounded to set the Dodgers down in order in the fifth, and limited the damage to four runs. He gave up a total of seven hits, walked one and struck out six.
Meanwhile, Dodgers starter Ted Lilly held the Giants off the scoreboard until Posey began the seventh by crushing a high offspeed pitch to left field. Renteria opened the eighth with a homer to left to chase Lilly, who surrendered just three hits, walked two and struck out seven.
Octavio Dotel came in and got into a long battle with pinch-hitter Burrell, who swatted a fastball to left-center field to get San Francisco within 4-3.
After Javier Lopez (4-2) pitched a perfect bottom of the eighth, Broxton entered to close the game in the ninth. However, Cody Ross hit a one-out single before Uribe took Broxton's second pitch, a slider in the zone, over the center field wall.
Los Angeles still threatened in the ninth, which Blake began with a single. One out later, Blake advanced to third on Jamey Carroll's base hit. But Wilson got Rod Barajas to pop out to shallow right before pinch-hitter Reed Johnson hit a grounder to third. Pablo Sandoval fielded the ball cleanly and threw to second for the game-ending force out.
Burrell's homer was his first as a pinch-hitter since May 22, 2008...Broxton has six blown saves this season...Wilson's save was his 39th of the season...Blake finished 3-for-4.
