Lane Kiffin On Penalties: "We've Got Nowhere To Go But Up"

In their first trip to Minnesota since 1980, when Marcus Allen ran for 216 yards and two touchdowns, USC heads northeast to play the Golden Gophers with an idea of keeping golden flags off the field. The Trojans have been penalized 24 times in two games for a total of 240 yards, and head coach Lane Kiffin isn't happy about it. "We're obviously extremely disappointed," Kiffin said, "again, we talked about it before the game, at every meeting during the week, then again at halftime, after the game. We got nowhere to go but up, that's for sure."

The Trojans will leave for Minnesota on Thursday. Of the weather, an expected high of 62 degrees with a 30% chance of rain, Kiffin said, "We're playing there at the right time."

From a simplistic standpoint, the Trojans played very well offensively in Week 1 and very well defensively in Week 2. The contrast intrigued Kiffin, who admitted he would like to see both aspects of his team play well in the same game, adding, "At least we've shown we can do it on both sides, and now we've got to bring it all together. That's our challenge."
