Joel Pineiro, who has been on the disabled list with a strained left oblique since late July, will rejoin the Angels rotation this weekend, per Lyle Spencer of MLB.com:
“We’ll try to get him out there over the weekend – most likely Saturday,” Angels manager Mike Scioscia said. “We’re still tweaking a couple of things.”
Pineiro last pitched for the Angels on July 21, when he allowed six runs in six innings in New York against the Yankees. He pitched six innings on a rehab assignment for the Class A Rancho Cucamonga in their playoff matchup against the Lake Elsinore Storm on Sunday. Pineiro didn’t allow a hit in the first five innings, and picked up the victory, allowing two runs on three hits in his outing.
Pineiro is in the first year of a two-year, $16 million contract signed last winter.
