Dodgers Designate Garret Anderson For Assignment; Jay Gibbons Called Up

The Dodgers announced a roster move before today’s game:

#Dodgers designate Garret Anderson and purchase the contract of Jay Gibbons.

Anderson struggled all season for the Dodgers, hitting just .181 in 163 plate appearances, with a .204 on-base percentage and .271 slugging percentage.

Gibbons, 33, was hitting .347 with 19 home runs and 83 RBI in 94 games with Triple A Albuquerque this season. He hasn’t played in the majors since 2007 with Baltimore. Gibbons was one of several players cited in the Mitchell Report and was suspended for the first 15 games of the 2008 season for admitting he used Human Growth Hormone.
