Orioles Top Angels, 9-7

Baltimore, MD (Sports Network) - Felix Pie went 3-for-4 and drove in three runs, as the Baltimore Orioles held off the Angels, 9-7, in the second test of a three-game set at Camden Yards.

Luke Scott hit a two-run homer for the Orioles, who won for the second straight night under new manager Buck Showalter. Ty Wigginton had two RBI for the victors.

Brian Matusz (4-11) was solid in six innings, allowing one run on seven hits to win for the first time since July 4. Since opening the 2010 campaign 2-0 over the first three starts, Matusz is 2-11 in his last 19 starts.

Maicer Izturis knocked in two runs for the Angels, who have dropped 10 of their last 13 games.

Ervin Santana (10-8) lasted just 3 2/3 innings in his worst start of the season, giving up nine runs on 12 hits. He also struck out four and walked two.

Trailing 9-1, the Angels made things interesting with a five-run seventh. Matt Albers put men on first and second with one out. Erick Aybar and Izturis drove in a total of three runs with back-to-back doubles. David Hernandez was called in from the bullpen and gave up an RBI double to Bobby Abreu. Torii Hunter singled before Abreu scored on a wild pitch. Koji Uehara got out of the jam, but not before Los Angeles made it a 9-6 game.

LA added another run in the ninth. Alfredo Simon gave up a leadoff double to Abreu, who scored on Hunter's two-bagger to left. Hunter, though, was caught trying to steal third. Fly outs from Howie Kendrick and Mike Napoli gave Simon his 16th save of the season.

Baltimore's offense got going in the second inning. Adam Jones doubled off the wall in right and crossed the plate on Pie's triple down the right-field line. Matt Wieters walked in front of Josh Bell's RBI base hit. The runners advanced to second and third on a sacrifice bunt and Brian Roberts' groundout plated Wieters for a 3-0 lead.

The Angels stranded men on second and third in the first and third frames.

Baltimore added a run in the home third for a four-run margin. With a man on second and two outs, Pie delivered an RBI single.

LA got on the board in the top of the fourth. Kendrick led off with a double off the wall in right, moved to third on a Juan Rivera groundout, and scored on Napoli's groundout.

The Orioles scored five times in the bottom half to make it a 9-1 game. With two outs, Roberts walked and Nick Markakis doubled. Wigginton then hit a two-run single. Scott followed with a two-run homer to left. Jones doubled and raced home on Pie's single to cap the rally. Rich Thompson took over for Santana and got Wieters to ground out.
