Deadline Passes With No Deal: Napoli Remains An Angel

Today’s deadline passed for the Angels to make a deal with the Red Sox, who claimed catcher / first baseman Mike Napoli off waivers last week. Since no deal was made, the Angels have pulled back Napoli off waivers, meaning he can’t be dealt until the offseason at the earliest. Per Alex Speier of WEEI in Boston:

According to a second source familiar with the situation, the Angels were “not really looking to move” Napoli right now. Even so, the team could revisit that stance this coming offseason.

Napoli is making $3.6 million this season, and will be arbitration eligible in 2011 and 2012.
