Thoughts:

Arguably the longest off-season for a USC football fan in recent memory, we're finally now five days away until USC plays against the Hawaii Warriors.  Many questions surround the football squad, but some have been answered today.  One of the bigger questions was who is to win the middle linebacker position between Devon Kennard and Chris Galippo, and it appears the younger Kennard won the role.

Some surprises include a couple of freshmen awarded starting positions.  Highly touted freshman receiver Robert Woods will start opposite side of senior Ronald Johnson.  Woods has sparkled through summer practice with his speed, catching ability, and displaying many skills an elite receiver makes.

The other surprise is freshman cornerback Nickell Robey will start opposite of senior Shareece Wright.  Robey may be extremely small at the position, but his leaping ability, coverage, and speed was too hard for Kiffin to not start Robey.

Junior Jurrell Casey was moved from nose tackle to the three-technique as junior DaJohn Harris will replace Casey's former position.  Defensive line coach Ed Orgeron believes Casey works better at that position and certainly worked on Thursday's scrimmage as Casey racked up three sacks.

The secondary is very young.  Besides the aforementioned Robey and the senior Wright, two sophomores will start at the safety positions as Jawanza Starling and TJ McDonald will replace two seniors that left to the NFL last season.

No surprise that Matt Barkley won the quarterback spot, but keep a close eye on that battle as Mitch Mustain has shown he could perform up to par as well.
