UCLA Legend Tyus Edney Joins Bruins Staff

Tyus Edney, the hero of the  Bruins' 1995 NCAA basketball tournament run, is returning to Westwood and the program that made him a star -- this time, as a major player behind the scenes. SBN's UCLA community reacts, giddily:

It's true. This is happening. [...] Edney is returning where it all began as the latest member of Ben Howland's staff at UCLA.Specifically Tyus is going to replace Joe Hillock as the Director of Basketball Operations ("DBO") at UCLA.
[...]
Edney’s duties will include but not limited to assisting "with various logistics associated with the program, assisting the coaches and student-athletes with various tasks, acting as a liaison with other departments in athletics and in the university."  Also, while it is true that Edney cannot coach and cannot recruit off-campus as the DBO, he can meet and speak to recruits on campus just like any university employee.

Following his time as a Bruin, Edney spent six seasons in the NBA and the balance of his pro career in Europe, most recently with Poland's Turów Zgorzelec in 2009. Bruins Nation has more, including the official UCLA press release.
