Dodgers Place Vicente Padilla On DL With Bulging Disk In Neck; Monasterios To Start Friday

Vicente Padilla has been placed on the disabled list with a bulging disk in his neck, per Dylan Hernandez of the Los Angeles Times.

Padilla, who signed a one-year contract last winter, is 6-4 with a 3.96 ERA in 15 starts for the Dodgers this season, with a career-high strikeout-to-walk ratio of 3.43. He missed nearly two months earlier this season with an irritated radial nerve in his right arm. Since returning from the disabled list in mid-June, Padilla was 5-3 with a 3.12 in 11 starts.

Manager Joe Torre said Carlos Monasterios would move from the bullpen to the starting rotation tomorrow night against Cincinnati to take Padilla’s spot. Monasterios, a Rule 5 pick last December, is 3-3 with a 3.72 ERA in 67 2/3 innings this season. He has pitched out of the bullpen, and has also made eight starts. He is 2-3 with a 4.91 ERA as a starter this season.

Travis Schlichting was recalled from Triple A Albuquerque to join the Dodger bullpen and take Padilla's spot on the active roster.
