Boston, MA (Sports Network) - Clay Buchholz turned in seven scoreless innings and Ryan Kalish hit his first career grand slam as Boston downed the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim, 6-0, in the opener of a three-game set from Fenway Park.
Darnell McDonald added a solo homer for the Red Sox, who notched their eighth straight win over the Halos this season and have won 10 of the last 11 meetings with the AL's southern California franchise.
Buchholz (14-5) scattered five hits over his outing, fanning three with two walks for his third straight victory and fourth in five starts.
Torii Hunter and Hideki Matsui collected two hits each for the Angels, who haven't beaten the Sox since the final matchup of last season, on September 17, 2009 at Fenway.
Jered Weaver (11-8) was dented in defeat for six hits and six runs over five full frames. It was the first time since May 18 at Texas that the right-hander failed to work at least six innings.
Weaver got into trouble in the fourth by allowing a leadoff single to David Ortiz and then issued two-out walks to J.D. Drew and Mike Lowell. Kalish stepped in a drilled a pitch into the bullpen in right-center for a 5-0 game.
Victor Martinez stroked an RBI double in the fifth for a six-run edge, and Buchholz worked out of a bases-loaded jam in the sixth by retiring Erick Aybar on a grounder to first.
He'd finish his start by setting the Angels down in order in the seventh.
Felix Doubront and Michael Bowden completed the win with scoreless innings of relief.
Hunter robbed Adrian Beltre of a home run in the second inning when he reached over the low bullpen wall to snag the ball.
McDonald's two-out solo homer over the Green Monster in the third gave the BoSox the lead, and managed to break a car window in the parking lot directly across from the stadium.

Prior to the game, the Red Sox activated second baseman Dustin Pedroia from the 15-day disabled list, and he played for the first time since breaking his foot at San Francisco on June 25. Pedroia finished 0-for 4 and committed an error...It was the first shutout win for the Red Sox since a 2-0 victory against the Dodgers on June 20...Boston also placed outfielder Eric Patterson on the 15-day disabled list and recalled outfielder Daniel Nava from Triple-A Pawtucket.
