Jonathan Broxton Out As Dodgers Closer...For Now

Jonathan Broxton, who has blown three saves in his last eight appearances, including last night’s heartbreaker in Philadelphia, has been temporarily removed from the closer position and replaced by Hong-Chih Kuo, per Dylan Hernandez of the Los Angeles Times, via Twitter:

Kuo is the #Dodgers’ closer — for now.

Torre said he will still use Broxton in close games; just wants to take him out of closing role until he gets his feet under him.

On days Kuo isn’t available, Dotel will close. Jansen could also be used.

Octavio Dotel will be the closer tonight in Atlanta, if needed, as Kuo has pitched each of the last two nights.

Broxton since the All-Star break has allowed 10 runs, nine hits, and 11 walks in eight innings, with just five strikeouts. Kuo has a 0.90 ERA this season, and has allowed runs in just three of 38 appearances this season.
