Shutout By Billingsley Ends Dodger Losing Streak

The Dodgers needed a strong outing from Chad Billingsley tonight, not only to snap a six-game losing streak, but also to give the bullpen a rest. Billingsley delivered, pitching his second career shutout, giving the Dodgers a 2-0 win over the Giants, salvaging a win in the final game of the three-game series.

Billingsley induced 16 ground ball outs in his 125-pitch effort. He has two career shutouts, both at home against the Giants, the last one coming July 30, 2008.

The last shutout by a Dodger pitcher was by Eric Stults, who also shutout the Giants at home, on May 9, 2009, 225 games ago.

Casey Blake drove in both runs for the Dodgers, with a home run in the second inning and a single in the eighth.

The Dodgers open a four-game series with the Mets Thursday night at Dodger Stadium.
