Joe Saunders allowed no runs in the first eight innings, and took a 1-0 lead into the ninth inning. However, the Royals pushed across single runs in the ninth and 10th innings, giving the Royals their sixth win in eight games.
After Saunders allowed a leadoff walk in the ninth inning, Brian Fuentes was brought in for the save opportunity. After a lineout to center field, and a stolen base by Willie Bloomquist, Mike Aviles lined to center field to tie the game.
Bloomquist singled in the 10th inning off Scot Shields, driving home the go-ahead run. Joakim Soria pitched a perfect 10th inning for his 21st save.
