When Kendry Morales landed awkwardly at home plate after his game-winning grand slam on May 29, the Angels were sitting at 24-27, three and a half games behind Oakland, and three games behind the Rangers.
↵Since then, the Angels have regrouped, as they always seem to do whenever they face adversity, and have gone on a 19-8 run. The problem is that Texas has won 20 of 26 in that same span, so the Angels now stand four and a half games out of first place, further back than they were when they were under .500.
↵This week, that can change, as the Angels welcome Texas to Anaheim for three games starting Tuesday night. Here are the pitching matchups:
↵Tuesday: Joel Pineiro vs. Scott Feldman
Wednesday: Scott Kazmir vs. Colby Lewis
Thursday: Jered Weaver vs. C.J. Wilson
The Angels’ starting pitching has been the key to their resurgence, with eight quality starts in their last 10 games, and a 3.99 ERA during their 27-game run.
↵The Angels play 10 of their next 29 games against the Rangers, so this is as good a time as any to close the gap.
