Lakers Vs. Clippers: Battle For Staples Center, Round 1

(Sports Network) - The Lakers will play the visitors Wednesday night when they tip off at Staples Center against their building co-tenants, Blake Griffin and the Clippers. The Lakers won their second straight game after a rare four-game skid on Tuesday when Kobe Bryant scored a game-high 32 points, leading Phil Jackson's club to a 115-108 victory over the road-weary Washington Wizards. Pau Gasol added 21 points, 14 rebounds and eight assists for the Lakers, while Lamar Odom contributed 24 points and seven boards in the win.

"We were happy with the win, but we didn't do a lot of things we should have," said the Lakers' Shannon Brown, who scored 12 points. "We need better ball movement and to get back in transition. We were able to get some key stops down the stretch." The Clips, meanwhile, are coming off a win of their own on Monday when Eric Gordon scored 13 of his 29 points in the fourth quarter, including a go-ahead three-pointer in the final minute to help the Clippers survive a furious Kings comeback in a 98-91 victory.

The Clippers squandered a 16-point lead entering the fourth and trailed 91-87 with 2 1/2 minutes to play before scoring the final 11 points. Ryan Gomes totaled 17 points and nine rebounds for the Clippers, who had lost four of five coming in. Griffin recorded his ninth straight double-double with 13 points and 11 rebounds for the victors. "Eric Gordon came up big for us at the end," Clippers head coach Vinny Del Negro said. "It's a good win. The guys needed it."

The Clips will be short-handed on the front line tonight. Two games after returning from a left ankle sprain that caused him to miss 11 games, center Chris Kaman tweaked the ankle again on Sunday against Portland and is unavailable. Meanwhile, former Laker Brian Cook will be serving the second of a two-game suspension for his altercation with the Blazers' Andre Miller. These city rivals split four games last season with each winning when they were designated as the home team.
