A pair of strong showings on Saturday could bode well for the Pac-10 when it comes the latest college football polls. The Oregon Ducks, who were rated at the top of both human polls and the BCS standings, did nothing to diminish their status, beating the Washington Huskies 53-16. The Stanford Cardinal, ranked 10th in the AP poll, 12th in the USA Today coaches poll, and 13th in the BCS last week, strengthened their case with a 42-17 pasting of BCS No. 15 Arizona.
Stanford was 24 points behind Nebraska in last week's AP poll, and the Cornhuskers struggled to a one-point victory over Iowa State on Saturday. Factor in losses by No. 5 Alabama and No. 6 Utah, and Stanford could move up three spots to seventh in the AP poll.
Stanford did move up three spots in the USA coaches poll, just released this morning. Here are the top ten teams in the USA Today coaches poll:
- Oregon
- Auburn
- TCU
- Boise State
- Wisconsin
- LSU
- Ohio State
- Nebraska
- Stanford
- Michigan State
The Pac-10 has one other team in the coaches poll top 25, the 19th-ranked Arizona Widcats.
