MLS Expansion Draft Comes And Goes, LA Galaxy Roster Stays The Same

This morning saw the Vancouver Whitecaps and Portland Timbers, MLS’ news expansion teams, chose their first ten players from a pool of unprotected players from each MLS franchise. Though the Galaxy were offering the likes of Gregg Berhalter and Dema Kovalenko, the team managed to get through the expansion draft without losing anyone. Chris Klein and Eddie Lewis were also on the unprotected list, but have already declared their retirement.

Crosstown rival Chivas USA lost two players, Alan Gordon who they had picked up from the LA Galaxy at midseason in exchange for allocation money, and USMNT member Jonathan Bornstein. After Alan Gordon was selected, Chivas elected to protect Mariano Trujillo. MLS Cup runner up Dallas FC lost Dax McCarthy to Portland’s first pick, while Seattle Sounders FC lost Sanna Nyassi to Vancouver with their first.
