Los Angeles, CA (Sports Network) - Reeves Nelson posted 17 points as the UCLA Bruins crushed the Cal State Northridge Matadors, 83-50, in non-conference action. Tyler Honeycutt added 16 points and Lazeric Jones pitched in 15 points for UCLA (1-0).
Rashaun McLemore scored 10 points in defeat for Cal State Northridge (0-1).
UCLA scored 37 of the game's first 46 points and cruised to a 46-24 lead at intermission.The Bruins led by as many as 41 points in the second half in what was a thoroughly convincing victory.Jones, who was making his Division I debut, shot 6-of-7 from the field in the win.
The Bruins shot 56.9% from the field, making 29 of their 51 shots. They made 24 out of 34 two-point field goal attempts, 70.6%. The Bruins next game is Monday night, hosting the Pepperdine Waves at Pauley Pavilion, in the opening round of the preseason NIT tournament.
