The Los Angeles Clippers open their preseason schedule tonight with a game in Portland against the Trail Blazers.
The Clippers are just 4-15 all-time in the preseason against the Trail Blazers, including 1-5 in Portland. Portland won the regular season series last year against the Clippers, three games to one.
A pair of new Clippers have tied to the Blazers. Randy Foye was drafted by Portland in 2006, but was dealt on draft day for Brandon Roy. Ryan Gomes was acquired by Portland from Minnesota along with Luke Babbitt on June 24 this year, but was waived five days later.
Portland center Marcus Camby, who was acquired from the Clippers on February 16, is currently out with a right groin injury.
Steve Perrin was at Clippers' practice on Monday, and had this to say about Baron Davis, who had his first full day of practice yesterday, on Clips Nation:
Baron is not a bad three point shooter, he just takes bad three point shots. Standing around in practice, he shoots as well as anyone on the team with the exception of Eric Gordon and maybe Rasual Butler. I watched him make something in the neighborhood of eight straight today at one point; and overall, I'd estimate the he made seven of ten in practice. The problem isn't that Baron shouldn't shoot threes - it's that he shouldn't take bad shots. He's not a great shooter by any stretch, and he does many other things better and I agree that those are the things on which he should concentrate, but if he gets an open three in the flow of the offense (as opposed to a pull up early in the shot clock) he should take it.
Tonight's game is at 7 p.m. from the Rose Garden in Portland.
