Clippers Look To Get Into The Win Column Against Mavericks At Staples Center

(Sports Network) - The Los Angeles Clippers look to get back to the win column with an afternoon affair against the Dallas Mavericks Sunday afternoon at Staples Center.

The Mavericks won their season opener on Wednesday versus Charlotte at home, but dropped a 91-90 decision to Memphis two days later at American Airlines Center. Marc Gasol's free throw with 6.7 seconds left in regulation enabled the Grizzlies to escape the Lone Star State with a win.

Dirk Nowitzki led Dallas with 27 points and seven rebounds, while Caron Butler had 18 points in the loss. Jason Terry netted 13 points for the Mavericks, who shot 47.2 percent from the field and still lost.

"Bad execution down the stretch," Nowitzki told "We had enough chances. We had the ball with six seconds left, that's plenty of time. But we didn't even get a look. It's a bad loss, a game we've got to win."

Dallas will hit the road for the first time this season against both the Clippers and Denver Nuggets. It went 27-14 away from home a year ago. In injury news for the Mavs, center Tyson Chandler is listed as probable for Sunday's game in LA with a bruised leg.

The Clippers, meanwhile, are still searching for a win under new head coach Vinny Del Negro and will kick off a three-game homestand today versus the Mavericks, Spurs and Thunder.

Los Angeles lost its season opener on Wednesday versus Portland, then suffered a 109-91 defeat at Golden State on Friday night. Eric Gordon had 19 points and Baron Davis added 16, while Blake Griffin recorded 14 points and 10 rebounds for the Clippers, who made 38.6 percent of their shots.

"We don't have time to be down," Del Negro said. "We have a lot of things to work on and it's going to take time."

Del Negro is hoping to avoid LA's third consecutive 0-3 start, but will have to defeat a Dallas team that has won six straight and 12 of the past 13 meetings between the teams. In injury news for LA, guard Randy Foye (hamstring) is expected to miss Sunday's game.

Dallas has won three straight and 10 of its last 15 road bouts with the Clippers.
