On October 20, 1988, 23 years ago today, the Los Angeles Dodgers completed their improbable season by beating the Oakland Athletics to win the World Series, thanks in large part to Orel Hershiser.

The 2011 World Series gets underway Wednesday night at Busch Stadium, and while neither the Dodgers nor Angels are involved in the Fall Classic, there are still plenty of ties to the local teams.
