NCAA Basketball Scores And Results: USC Trojans Having Their Worst Season Ever

The USC Trojans, as they have often this season, remained close with a superior opponent, staying within two points of the Stanford Cardinal in the second half on Sunday. But Stanford used an 11-0 run to put the game away and deliver to USC their fourth straight loss. The Trojans have lost 16 of their last 18 contests, and suffered their 20th loss for the first time since the 1988-1989 season.

With five games remaining, the 2011-2012 Trojans have a very good chance to finish with the worst record in the history of the school (not counting the brief 0-2 season in 1917-1918.

USC has lost 20 games for the fourth time, with the 11-20 team in the 1983-1984 season the only team not on the list above. Of course, the Trojans this year are down to just six scholarship players on the active roster, so they are a near lock to be heavy underdogs their final five games. The Trojans travel across town to face UCLA on Wednesday.

USC Vs. Stanford Final Score: Trojans Lose 20 Games For First Time Since 1989

The Stanford Cardinal used an 11-0 run in the second half to break open a close game, beating the USC Trojans 59-47 Sunday night at Galen Center for their first regular season win in Los Angeles since 2005. Chasson Randle scored 16 points for the Cardinal, hitting four shots from behind the three-point arc, to lead Stanford (17-8, 7-6), who snapped a two-game losing streak.

The loss was the fourth straight for the Trojans (6-20, 1-12), who have lost 16 of their last 18 games after a 4-4 start to the season. USC lost 20 games for the first time since the 1988-1989 season, when George Raveling's crew finished 10-22.

A layup by Maurice Jones cut Stanford's lead to 35-33 with 11:25 remaining in the game, but the Cardinal scored the next 11 points over the next three and a half minutes to essentially put the game away.

Jones scored 10 points for the Trojans, but made just two of 14 shots from the field. USC shot 31.3% for the game, and were outrebounded by Stanford 45-19. Greg Allen scored 13 points to lead USC, including making three of six three-pointers.

Josh Owens scored 15 points on 6-of-8 shooting and grabbed five rebounds.

The Trojans travel across town to battle the UCLA Bruins Wednesday night at the Sports Arena in Los Angeles.

The USC Trojans look for their second win in Pac-12 Conference play on Sunday afternoon as they host the Stanford Cardinal at Galen Center. The game features a pair of struggling teams, to varying degrees. Here are the relevant details of Sunday's game:

Records: USC (6-19, 1-11 in Pac-12 play); Stanford (16-8, 6-6)

Location: Galen Center, downtown Los Angeles

Time: 4:30 p.m.

TV: Prime Ticket, with Steve Physioc on play-by-play, Marques Johnson on color commentary, and Rebecca Haarlow reporting from the sideline.

Home vs. Road: USC is 4-10 at home this season; Stanford is 3-5 on the road this season.

Going Streaking I: USC has lost three straight games, 12 of their last 13, and 15 of their last 17 contests.

Going Streaking II: Stanford has lost two straight games, four straight road games, and have lost five of their last six games overall after opening their conference season 5-1.

Going Streaking III: The Cardinal haven't won a regular season game in Los Angeles, against either USC or UCLA, since 2005. USC has won six straight home games against Stanford and leads the all-time series 121-119.

Stepping Up: USC sophomore forward Garrett Jackson averaged 3.9 points off the bench in the first 18 games of the season, but since joining the starting lineup in place of the injured Aaron Fuller on January 19 in Oregon Jackson has scored 11.3 points per game.

Pac-12 College Basketball Standings 2012: California Bears In First Place After Road Sweep Of UCLA, USC

The California Bears this week did something they hadn't done for 53 seasons, and as a result will end the week in first place in the Pac-12 Conference. Cal (20-6, 10-3) vaulted into the top spot in the conference college basketball standings thanks to coming into Los Angeles and sweeping the USC Trojans and UCLA Bruins.

The Bears completed a season sweep of both the Bruins and Trojans, winning all four games against both schools for the first time since th 1958-1959 season. Cal enters play on Sunday a half-game up on the Washington Huskies in the Pac-12.

Here are the Pac-12 standings through games of Saturday, with a pair of games on the docket for Sunday. The USC Trojans host the Stanford Cardinal at Galen Center on Sunday afternoon, preceded by Washington looking to keep pace with Cal with a road battle at Oregon State.

USC Vs. Cal Final Score: Trojans Get Blasted At Home, 75-49

Early in the second half it looked like the USC Trojans would have their second straight close game against the California Golden Bears, as the Trojans were down only three points in the first minute after halftime. However, Cal put an end to any upset thoughts by dominating the rest of the game, en route to a 75-49 win at Galen Center on Thursday night.

USC (6-19, 1-11) has lost three straight games and 15 of their last 17 contests.

Maurice Jones led the Trojans with 17 points on 8-of-13 shooting, but unfortunately his teammates shot 26.5% from the field (13 for 49). USC was outrebounded 41-28, as David Kravish had 18 boards for Cal (19-6, 9-3).

Allen Crabbe scored 19 points, grabbed four rebounds, and dished out four assists for the Bears. Harper Kamp added 18, as the duo combined to make 17 of 23 field goals (73.9%) in the game.

USC hosts Stanford on Saturday afternoon.

USC Vs. Cal: Trojans Look To Snap Losing Skid

The USC Trojans return home Thursday night looking for an elusive Pac-12 Conference win hosting the California Bears at Galen Center in Los Angeles. Cal is tied for second place in the Pac-12.

USC (6-18, 1-10) has lost two straight, 11 of their last 12 and 14 of their last 16 contests. The Trojans are staring down the barrel of a 20-loss season since the 1988-1989 campaign, when they were 10-22. USC has to win six of their last seven games to avoid a 20-loss season.

The Trojans lost a heartbreaker to Cal 53-49 in their Pac-12 opener on December 29. USC cut a 16-point second have deficit to one point in the final seconds, but were unable to grab the lead. Maurice Jones scored 17 points in the loss, including hitting a trio of shots from three-point range. Jones leads the team in scoring (14.0 points per game), assists (3.38 per game), and steals (1.75 per game) this season, and has averaged 38.4 minutes per game on the season.

Cal (18-6, 8-3) is led by guards Allen Crabbe and Jorge Gutierrez. Crabbe is fourth in the conference in scoring at 15.9 points per game and also averages 6.1 rebounds per contest this season. Gutierrez is averaging 14.1 points and 5.3 rebounds per game, and leads the conference with 30 steals.

USC is 6-4 in their last 10 meetings with Cal and hasn't lost a season series to the Bears since getting swept in the 2005-2006 season.
