USC wide receiver Robert Woods suffered an apparent concussion on Thursday but Lane Kiffin said he was "fine" on Friday

USC head coach Lane Kiffin said star wide receiver Robert Woods was "fine" after the receiver suffered from what appeared to be concussion-like symptoms during Thursday's game against Utah. Kiffin also reiterated that Woods was cleared to return to the game by the USC medical staff.

Woods was involved in a big collision during a second quarter punt return and was down on the field for a short while before getting up and attempting to jog off the field. He was unable to, however, and instead stumbled before falling to the turf.

While it appeared obvious to most untrained medical eyes that Woods suffered a concussion, he reentered the game a short while later. Many were critical of the fact Woods was allowed back into the game so quickly, but Kiffin said the decision to allow him onto the field was made solely by the medical staff.

Kifffin also noted that USC's doctors have erred on the side of caution in the past, including with Geogia defensive end Jarvis Jones, who transferred after the USC medical staff wouldn't clear him to play with a neck injury.
