USC vs. Colorado: Lane Kiffin concerned about third downs, pass defense

Kirby Lee-US PRESSWIRE - Presswire

The Trojans may be No. 10 on the BCS standings and riding a three-game winning streak, but Lane Kiffin believes there is plenty of room for improvement.

The USC Trojans won their third-straight game on Saturday, defeating the Washington Huskies, 24-14, but Lane Kiffin believes there are several areas of concern that need to be addressed going forward. The head coach had a conference call with reporters on Sunday night, where he discussed the game against the Huskies, as well as what lies ahead for the Trojans.

Kiffin spoke on the things that his team needs to work on with a tough schedule ahead of them. Kiffins believes there are three main areas that need to be improved, according to espn.com:

In order, they are: third-down efficiency on offense, penalties in all phases of the game and pass defense.

The first two are obvious. The third is less so, because the Trojans haven't had serious issues there this season. But the competition is going to get tougher and USC's secondary will be facing significantly better passing offenses in the coming weeks.

"We know what's coming," Kiffin said.

The Trojans just shut down a talented passing game led by UW quarterback Keith Price, limiting him to 198 yards through the air with two interceptions. After Colorado, USC will face high-powered passing offenses in Arizona and Arizona State, as well as an Oregon squad full of weapons through the air. The Trojans are currently ranked 29th in the FBS in passing efficiency defense.
