Pac-12 College Basketball Scores And Results: UCLA, USC Have Tough Road Weekends In Oregon

The UCLA Bruins and USC Trojans both had similar, and disappointing weekends in the state of Oregon. Both suffered hard fought close losses on Thursday night, then had exasperating losses on Saturday, both infuriating in their own right. Here is a brief review of the weekend for the local hoops squads.

Thursday - Oregon State 87, UCLA 84: There wasn't much defense to be found in Corvallis as both teams shot over 57% from the field. Pac-12 leading scorer Jared Cunningham scored 16 of his 21 points in the second half as the Beavers turned a tie game with about 10 minutes left into an Oregon State triumph.

Thursday - Oregon 65, USC 62: The Trojans officially announced they would be without forward Aaron Fuller for the rest of the season, and nearly pulled off a road upset, pulling to within a point in the final seconds. But USC fell short, which has happened all too often this season.

Saturday - Oregon 75, UCLA 68: Losing by seven to Oregon isn't all that bad, especially now that the Ducks are tied atop the conference at 6-2. But considering the Bruins led by 13 at halftime, getting blitzed by 20 points in the second half is one of the more frustrating losses of the season for UCLA.

Saturday - Oregon State 78, USC 59: The Trojans are down to seven scholarship players on the active roster, and it showed on Saturday in Corvallis. It was the eighth straight loss for USC, which fell to a dreadful 0-7 in the Pac-12.

USC Vs. Oregon State Final Score: Trojans Still Winless In Pac-12 After 78-59 Road Loss

The USC Trojans visited the Oregon St. Beavers on Saturday night in search of their first Pac-12 win of the season. When all was said and done, their attempts came up empty and they fell to 0-7 in conference play. The final score was 78-59 in favor of the Beavers, who improved to 3-5 within the Pac-12.

OSU opened up a sizable lead early and entered halftime on top by a score of 36-22. Although the Trojans performed slightly better in the second half, for all intents and purposes the damage had already been done. USC was charged with quite a few fouls. Oregon State took 21 free throws in the game, compared to just 10 for the Trojans.

USC's leading scorer was guard Byron Wesley, who scored 15 points, along with seven rebounds and three assists.

The Trojans now hold and overall record of 5-15. Their next game will be on Thursday, January 26 as they host the Colorado Buffaloes.

Aaron Fuller Injury: USC Forward To Have Shoulder Surgery

The USC Trojans officially announced on Thursday night that junior forward Aaron Fuller would miss the rest of the regular season, diagnosed with a anterior labrum tear in his left shoulder. The surgery will be performed by Dr. James Tibone at USC Hospital on Thursday, January 26.

Fuller, a native of Mesa, Arizona, transferred to USC from Iowa after the 2009-2010 season and sat out all of last season while practicing with the team. The 6'6", 235-pound Fuller led USC in rebounding this season at 5.9 boards per game and was second on the team in scoring at 10.6 points per contest. With a field goal percentage of 51.5%, Fuller was one of just three Trojans to shoot 40% or higher this season.

The injury to Fuller is the latest in a long line for USC this season. Senior point guard Jio Fontan (left ACL) and sophomore forward Curtis Washington (labrum) each had season-ending surgery before the season, and sophomore forward Evan Smith aggravated a prior labrum injury and played just 47 minutes in four games before his season was done.

USC (5-14, 0-6) has 12 games remaining on the schedule in its season, and currently has just seven scholarship players on the active roster.

USC Vs. Oregon Final Score: Trojans Lose Close One 65-62, Fall To 0-6 In Pac-12

With official news coming earlier in the day that they would be without Aaron Fuller, their second-leading scorer and leading rebounder, for the rest of the season, the USC Trojans played perhaps their guttiest game of the season Thursday night in Eugene, Oregon. But it wasn't quite enough as the Trojans lost 65-62 to the Oregon Ducks.

The loss was the seventh straight for USC, which fell to 0-6 in Pac-12 Conference play, the Trojans' worst start since 1989, when they began 0-12.

Center Dewayne Dedmon had his finest game of the year for USC with 18 points and seven rebounds. He shot seven of 10 from the field, and helped USC get easy buckets, a phrase not often used to describe the Trojans this season. USC shot 41.0% from the field, which may sound mediocre, but considering the Trojans had eclipsed 40% shooting just once in their previous 10 games Thursday is considered a success.

Maurice Jones scored 22 points to lead the Trojans, and hit a pair of free throws with 24 seconds remaining to pull USC to within one point. But they weren't able to get closer. Garrett Sim scored 20 points to lead Oregon, while Devoe Joseph chipped in with 16 points, including two free throws with 16 seconds remaining to put the Ducks up by three points.

A three-point attempt with six seconds left by Jones would have tied the game, but instead the ball caromed into the hands of Joseph, sealing the win for Oregon. USC plays Oregon State in Crovallis on Saturday night.

USC Vs. Oregon Game Score: Maurice Jones, Trojans Hanging Tough, Trail 30-28 At Halftime

One of these games, the shots were bound to start falling for the USC Trojans. The Trojans used a 14-2 run in the first half to briefly take a lead, but after 20 minutes USC trails the Oregon Ducks 30-28 at halftime at Matthew Knight Arena Thursday night in Eugene.

Maurice Jones scored 12 points in the opening half, including a pair of three-pointers, to lead the Trojans. USC, who has shot under 40% in nine of their last 10 games, made 46.2% of their field goal attempts (12 of 26) in the first half. Seven-foot center Dewayne Dedmon added six points for the Trojans but had zero rebounds.

The problem for USC was that they were dominated inside. Oregon outrebounded the Trojans 18-6 and had 14 points in the paint compared to just six for the Trojans. Olu Ashaolu led the Ducks with nine points on 4-of-5 shooting in the opening half, while Garrett Sim added seven for Oregon.
