The USC Trojans could be national championship contenders next year. But Matt Barkley needs to decide whether he wants to return and try and lead the Men of Troy back to where they want to go.
Barkley is almost guaranteed to be at least the second quarterback in the NFL draft this upcoming year behind Stanford's Andrew Luck, and he's proven that he's every bit the performer Luck can be, particularly with a highlight win over Oregon in Eugene. Many NFL teams would love to take him.
Most of USC's offensive weapons are returning: Running back Curtis McNeal, wide receivers Robert Woods, Marqise Lee and Brice Butler, and tight ends Xavier Grimble and Randall Telfer will all be in place, and at least four of the five offensive linemen (jury is out on Matt Kalil, who could be a top five pick like Barkley). USC also has plenty of talent returning on an improving defense. Would Barkley willingly pass up the draft and a great shot at leading USC back to glory to try and lead that arsenal of talent back?
It'd be pretty surprising, but for Barkley to get a chance in college to lead his team to a title, it might be worth the risk.
