USC Beats UC Irvine, 62-49 In Basketball Opener

Los Angeles, CA (Sports Network) - Nikola Vucevic's double-double of 19 points and 14 rebounds powered the USC Trojans over the UC Irvine Anteaters, 62-49, in a non-conference showdown in Los Angeles. Bryce Jones added 14 points and eight rebounds for USC (1-0), while Maurice Jones had 13 points and four assists.

Pavol Losonsky led the way for UCI (0-2) with 13 points and eight rebounds. Eric Wise also reached double figures, finishing the game with 12 points.

The Trojans drained five three pointers in the opening half, helping them to a 30-24 advantage at the break. Vucevic scored 17 of his points after the intermission and USC went 14-of-17 at the foul line on its way to the 13-point victory. The Trojans dominated the boards, 47-26, including 15-4 on the offensive glass.

USC next plays Santa Clara, hosting them Monday night at Galen Center at 7:30 p.m. PST.
