UCLA vs. Colorado final: Bruins have no trouble in win

After getting off to a slow start, the UCLA Bruins took care of business on the road at Folsom Stadium, beating the Colorado Buffaloes by the score of 42-14 on Saturday.

The Bruins offense began the game with a slow start, but was able to extend their lead through every quarter of play. Meanwhile, UCLA's defense remained stout throughout the game as they held the Buffaloes to just 14 points, via passing touchdowns.

UCLA quarterback Brett Hundley was the star of the game for the Bruins. The freshman threw for over 300 yards, completed 24 of 37 passes and found the end zone four times on the day -- two on the ground and two through the air.

Hundley was supported by senior running back Johnathan Franklin, who ran for 111 yards despite receiving just 11 carries in the game.

As aforementioned, the Buffaloes offense struggled on Saturday and the running game was virtually non-existent. As a unit, Colorado combined for just 35 yards on 29 carries.

Box Score Hero: Bruins quarterback Brett Hundley completed 24 of his 37 passes for 307 yards and four touchdowns.

Rankings Ramifications: The Bruins fell out of favor after losing at home against Oregon State, but this road victory will help them stay on track to get back into the rankings.

But Did They Cover? The Bruins were a 21-point favorite and were able to cover the spread.

Next Week's Schedule: UCLA will remain on the road and take on the California Golden Bears on Oct. 6 while Colorado will get the week off before taking on the Arizona State Sun Devils at home on Oct. 11.

UCLA Vs. Colorado Game Score: Bruins Offense Dominates, Lead 21-7 At Halftime

The UCLA Bruins closed out the first quarter with a slim seven point lead, but the team was able to extend it to 14 and enter halftime with a 21-7 lead over the Colorado Buffaloes.

After scoring the only touchdown of the game in the first half, Bruins quarterback Brett Hundley scored two more in the second quarter for the Bruins, one via the air and the other on the ground.

In the opening minutes of the second quarter, Hundley connected with Darius Bell on a 17 yard pass for a touchdown. The quarterback later found the promise land once again with 2:14 left in the first half, after he was able to sneak in a one-yard rushing touchdown.

Bruins running back Jonathan Franklin continued his dominance, too, accumulating for nearly 100 rushing yards in the first half alone. The senior running back did that in just ten carries, making it all the more impressive.

On the other end, UCLA's defense has stifled the Buffaloes offense thus far. The Bruins defense has held the Buffaloes to -30 yards and have allowed just 104 yards via the air, including a 17 yard passing touchdown.

UCLA Bruins defense looks to stop former commit Christian Powell

Christian Powell was an original commit to the UCLA Bruins last year when he was a senior at Upland. The Bruins originally recruited him as a fullback to be a lead blocker for running backs who looked like more natural fits at the position.

However, after a coaching shift led to most of the old staff being axed, Powell decided to look elsewhere in his recruitment, eventually settling on the Colorado Buffaloes. More interestingly, he has moved from fullback to running back, and in his first season is currently Colorado's leading rusher with 265 yards on 62 carries this season. Powell is averaging 4.27 yards per carry and has three touchdowns, and he figures to be the focus of UCLA's defense this week.

Chris Foster of the Los Angeles Times wrote up a story on Powell that detailed his journey from Los Angeles to Boulder. UCLA's defense needs to be prepared to deal with a power back while also winning the battle at the line of scrimmage.

UCLA Football: Bruins LB Jordan Zumwalt in scooter accident, should play at Colorado

Chris Foster of the Los Angeles Times reports that linebacker Jordan Zumwalt had a motor scooter accident this Sunday. Zumwalt was riding his motor scooter back to his apartment in Westwood when he was hit by a car, reported a source who is close to the situation. Zumwalt had to be treated for minor injuries at a hospital, although he was released that same evening. Zumwalt did not practice with the team on Tuesday.

Zumwalt is expected to play when UCLA travels to Boulder for a game against Colorado on Saturday. Zumwalt is one of the team's leading tacklers, as he's currently situated fifth overall with 16 and also has three tackles for loss. If Zumwalt is unable to go, there are a few possibilities off the bench like Keenan Graham, Aaron Wallace and Aramide Olaniyan, with freshman Kenny Orjioke a potential option as well. The good news is that UCLA is facing the Buffaloes, who are among the candidates for worst team in the Pac-12.

UCLA vs. Colorado: Bruins' trio of freshmen offensive linemen maturing quickly

Attributing poor play to "being young" is an excuse UCLA cannot afford to use often. The Bruins are currently starting three freshman on their offensive line.

Feeding the ball to quarterback Brett Hundley is redshirt freshman center Jake Brendel. Both tackle positions are occupied by redshirt freshman Torian White and true freshman Simon Goines.

UCLA head coach Jim Mora has the delicate task of getting each student athlete to grow up fast and adjust to the college game. As redshirts, Brendel and White have at least had a year to be around the team and go through practice. Goines was playing in his high school league at this time last year, and now he's a starter in college.

Mora realizes he needs to be part disciplinarian and part guidance counselor in getting the most out of his young squad. Brendel was expected to start this year. White was given an opportunity to move into the tackle position after teammate guard Wade Yandall retired from injury, and then-tackle Xavier Su'a-Filo moved into position. Of the players available to play the other tackle position, Goines was the best option for Mora.

This weekend, the Bruins will face the University of Colorado Buffaloes, in Colorado.
