The UCLA Bruins open the 2012 football season on the road, heading to Houston to face the Rice Owls.
The UCLA Bruins will face the Rice Owls on the road, opening their season in Texas next Thursday. Complete game time, location and TV schedule information is below.
It is the first Bruins game under new head coach Jim Mora, and Bruins fans are eager to see the team begin rebuilding. UCLA football finished 2011 with a disappointing 6-8 record, leading to the dismissal of coach Rick Neuheisel. Redshirt freshman Brett Hundley emerged as the winner of the quarterback competition, and will lead the offense with the help of running back Johnathan Franklin. In 2011 Franklin rushed for 976 yards and five touchdowns, and must now look to carry the run game without departed senior Derrick Coleman.
Rice posted a 4-8 record in the 2011 season. The 2012 UCLA football team has some history to measure up to: The school has played Rice four times in its history, going back to 1952, and has won all four games.
Game time, TV channel: 4:30 p.m. PT, CBS Sports Network
Point spread: UCLA favored by 15.5
