The UCLA Bruins entered Saturday's match-up against the Oregon State Beavers with a Pac-12 win on their minds. Though the team struggled at times in the second half, the Bruins managed to get just that by making fourth-quarter plays when they mattered and coming away with a 27-19 victory.
The Bruins jumped all over the Beavers early, scoring three straight touchdowns after an early Beavers field goal to lead 21-3. Quarterback Richard Brehaut accounted for two of those touchdowns with a pass to Taylor Embree and a rushing score of his own. UCLA led 21-10 at halftime.
The second half, however, was a different story for the Bruins. The team scored no points in the third quarter while the Beavers rallied. Beavers quarterback Sean Mannion fired in a 45-yard touchdown pass to Jordan Bishop on the very last play of the third quarter, bringing the Beavers within two points at 21-19.
Both teams went big in the early part of the fourth quarter, attempting runs on 4th-and-1. They both fell short, and neither team seemed to have the upper hand until the Bruins charged 65 yards down the field and scored on a one-yard touchdown run by Anthony Barr. The Beavers failed to answer with a touchdown of their own over the game's final 6:15, and the Bruins walked away as 27-19 victors.
Brehaut finished the game with 146 passing yards and one touchdown through the air on 7-of-11 throws. He also tacked on 10 rushing yards and one touchdown on eight carries. Derrick Coleman led UCLA's ground attack with 75 yards on 15 rushing attempts, and Josh Nelson led Bruins wideouts with 76 yards on three receptions.
The Bruins improve to 2-2 on the season and 1-0 in the Pac-12. The Bruins travel to Palo Alto to face No. 5 Stanford and Andrew Luck next weekend.

The UCLA Bruins controlled the first half of Saturday's game against the Oregon State Beavers, entering halftime with a 21-10 lead and lots of confidence. A low-scoring third quarter saw the lead get cut to 21-19.
Oregon State opened up the second half with possession and promptly turned a nine-play, 67-yard drive into three points as they closed within 21-13. UCLA responded by doing what was so effective for them in the second quarter: running the football. Eight rushing attempts in nine plays gave kicker Jeff Locke a field goal opportunity from 39 yards out, but the attempt was blocked and the Bruins came away with no points on the drive.
Both teams went back and forth with punts throughout the rest of the quarter, but Beavers quarterback Sean Mannion ended the quarter with a bang with a 45-yard touchdown pass to Jordan Bishop. The two point-conversion failed.
The Bruins enter the fourth quarter with a 21-19 edge but will need to step it up to secure the win. UCLA will receive the kickoff at the start of the fourth qarter.

The UCLA Bruins go into the locker room at halftime with a 21-10 lead over the Oregon State Beavers. The Bruins used the passing game well in the first quarter to set up their first touchdown, and they used the run well in the second period to tack on two more touchdowns.
The Bruin defense came up big early in the period on an interception of Beavers quarterback Sean Mannion. UCLA pounded the ball with running backs Johnathon Franklin and Derrick Coleman until quarterback Richard Brehaut got in on the fun, rushing for a five-yard touchdown score to give them Bruins a 14-3 edge.
After a pair of punts, the Bruin defense forced Mannion to fumble the ball away on the Beaver four-yard line with under five minutesleft. UCLA promptly turned the opportunity into another score on a four-yard run by Jordon James. A late, 85-yard punt return touchdown by Oregon State's Jordan Poyer closed the gap to 21-10.
Brehaut has 117 yards and one touchdown on five-of-seven passing through the air as well as a one-yard rushing touchdown. Franklin and Coleman have 36 and 44 yards, respectively, on the ground while Josh Smith has 62 yards on one reception through the air.
Oregon State will receive the opening kickoff in the second half.

The UCLA Bruins received the ball at the start of this game against the Oregon State Beavers but were unable to move the ball too far before they were forced to punt.
The Beavers came onto the field, starting at their own 10-yard line. Redshirt freshman quarterback Sean Mannion led an efficient drive, completing 5 of 8 passes for 75 yards, including a 31-yard pass to senior James Rodgers, who is playing his first game since October 2010 after having two knee surgeries.
In total, the Oregon State drive was 17 plays long, went 82 yards and lasted 7:46. They had to settle for a field goal to take a 3-0 lead.
That, however, was short lived, as UCLA quarterback Richard Brehaut led a 3 play, 80 yard drive that lasted only 1:16. First down, Brehaut connected with Josh Smith on a 62-yard bomb before he was pushed out at the OSU 18-yard line.
After getting sacked, Brehaut then threw a rocket to Taylor Embree, who held onto the pass for a touchdown despite getting thrown around on the reception.
With a 7-3 lead, the Bruins kicked the ball back to the Beavers, who returned the ball to the 30-yard line. At the end of the first quarter, UCLA has a 4 point advantage, and Oregon State has the ball at their own 45.

The UCLA Bruins face the Oregon St. Beavers in what amounts into a battle for survival for Rick Neuheisel. UCLA cannot lose this game if Neuheisel expects to have any sort of hope going forward; the Beavers are probably one of the worst teams in the Pac-12 and he has to win these games. There's a lot riding on the future of Bruins football in Corvallis this Saturday afternoon. Like, future wins. And relevance. And interest.

Last time these two teams met: Neuheisel's last significant victory! Kai Forbath kicked a field goal and the Beavers won in a last-second field goal last season, just to knock a Pac-12 team out of bowl eligibility and to annoy the hell out of Larry Scott.
