2011 National Signing Day: UCLA Lands Four Star DT Kevin McReynolds

So maybe this National Signing Day isn't going to be so bad after all for the Bruins. UCLA just landed a pretty big prospect (literally and metaphorically) in D.C. native Kevin McReynolds.

Kevin McReynolds picks #UCLA, bright spot in an otherwise rough class.less than a minute ago via web

McReynolds is a four star recruit (according to Rivals) from St. John's College High in Washington D.C., and should help bolster the UCLA defensive line immediately. I actually interviewed McReynolds last week for a piece about the state of his recruiting on Washington You can find it here. This is what he had to say about UCLA.

I like UCLA because, well, the weather is tremendous, it's a place I can go in there an play early, and the education is awesome.

McReynolds is 6-foot-2, 281 pounds, and plays with excellent athleticism for his size. He is still recovering from an ankle injury which cost him a large portion of his senior season. That might have been the reason that he fell down some recruiting rankings. But other school's loss is UCLA's gain.

2011 National Signing Day: UCLA Secures Four More Commitments

See? This is exactly how fast things can happen on Nation Signing Day. Just a few minutes ago we were talking about having to wait until about 2:00 p.m. for the next important update in UCLA recruiting news. And now, look what we have, four new Bruins, according to the Los Angeles Times.

UCLA picked up four more letters of intent, as defensive lineman Brandon Tuliaupupu, offensive lineman Ben Wysocki, running back Steven Manfro and offensive lineman Conor McDermott have signed.

Tuliaupupu is from Claremont, Calif. and is the 52nd best DT prospect in the nation. He had originally committed to Washington State before switching to UCLA.

The other three recruits are unranked:

None of these players are expected to be major players for the Bruins, but they should at least provide some depth to the roster. And who knows? Maybe one of them will surprise people and develop into a major contributor down the line. Wishful thinking I know, but it could happen.

UCLA Football Recruiting: Can Rick Neuheisel Bring A Strong Class For The Bruins?

Is there any seat in the country hotter than the one Rick Neuheisel is sitting on? He needs some wins at UCLA and he needs them, like, yesterday. The best way to get better results on the field is to get better players into the program. And wouldn't you know it? Today is National Signing Day.

This is the first day that players can make their collegiate commitments official by signing their letters of intent. There are also a lot of players out there who have yet to make a decision that will be announcing their intentions throughout the day.

It's early, but UCLA has already missed out on a prospect that was considering them. Troy Niklas, an athlete from the Anaheim area, has committed to Notre Dame. The final two schools he was considering were Notre Dame and USC, but UCLA was one of 10 schools that had given him an official offer.

The next announcement that UCLA fans should be waiting for is Devin Lucien, a wide receiver from Encino, Calif. He is considering UCLA, Arizona St., Colorado and Miami. He will be making his announcement at 2:55 p.m. Pacific.
